The RAISE community is a unique network of people from all over the European Union. From its creation in 2005 as part of a European Commission funded project to gather citizens’ views about the City of Tomorrow research programme, it has developed a life of its own, carried forward by the goodwill and enthusiasm of the participants, who have had their lives transformed by their involvement.
Clichéd as it sounds, being part of RAISE really does feel like being part of a family – a family whose members come from every country of the EU. Like any family, we don’t all get on perfectly all of the time, but because we have worked together, and played together, we have faces and personalities to attach to each of the nationalities of our continent. We know at first hand how lucky we are to live in a continent with such a diverse and ancient culture, and although we are aware of the flaws and frustrations of living in Europe, we are hopeful and positive that together our efforts can make a difference.
