Your opportunity to get involved

As a first experiment at the European level, in the “Citizens Conference on the European City of Tomorrow” organised with the support of the European Project RAISE in Autumn 2005, one citizen per European Country was selected to participate in a series of 3 workshops and a Final Conference, screening in particular the urban sustainability approaches and technologies coming from the European Union research findings. The citizens produced the Citizens' Declaration on the European City of Tomorrow, now available in all EU national languages at http://www.raise-eu.org/.

Participation was rewarded and travel and subsistence costs covered. Eligibility criteria were:

  • to be a national of a Member State or Candidate Country of the European Union;
  • to have a thorough knowledge of English;
  • to have easy access to Internet connection and e-mail;
  • to be available at the meeting/conference dates, for a total of 8-10 days of committment.

Please download and read the Citizens Declaration. If you believe that what is recommended therein for building a more sustainable "City of Tomorrow" is worthwhile of your own possible contribution, you are invited to submit an application to enter in the pool of citizens who may be selected to participate to new RAISE citizens conference projects, if and when they will be organised.

Of course participation is voluntary, and you will be free to confirm your participation to future citizens conference only if by chance you are selected to take part in a transnational panel of citizens, and you will be available to provide some of your time. You may find below more information and download the application form. You can also contact the RAISE citizen from your country to get more lively insights about his/her experience in the first RAISE conference.

The application form can be submitted continuously. While submitting the application form, you are required to fill in a questionnaire, whose information will be used to select people with different characteristics and a variety of urban life habits. Selection will be first made based on objective criteria (i.e. knowledge of English, etc.) and then on a purely random basis to avoid any biases towards a certain “category” of citizens. The aim is to form - when required by new RAISE projects - panels of 27 citizens, one from each EU Member State.

Hoping you will be interested - and you will have the opportunity to - participate in RAISE conference initiatives, we remain

Yours sincerely

The RAISE Citizens' Group
